Blanco River Lavender Company
"Home Page"
The Blanco River Lavender Company began in 2005 when Stephen and Kennie
Smith planted their first 1000 lavender plants of the Provence variety.   Some 3,000
plants now make up their lavender farm, representing nearly 30 different varieties.
Stephen and Kennie live in the old farmhouse that Stephen’s grandparents built in
1899 and in which Stephen’s father was born and lived in his entire life.  The farm
was established in 1872 by Stephen’s great-grandparents when they arrived by
wagon from the mid-west, and has been in agricultural production even since.   It
was at first a cotton and livestock farm…then oats, alfalfa, cattle and sheep…and
now…lavender.

We will be open on Festival weekend beginning on Friday and in addition to the
country store in the old barn, field tours and tours of the rainwater catchment system,
we will have other activities planned.  Bill Maloney and his wife Roberta will be at the
farm giving flintknapper demonstrations and offering his beautiful arrowheads for
sale.  Roberta has crafted unique jewelry from some of the arrowheads and will have
them for sale as well.   San Antonio artist Dan Potter will be at the farm offering his
work.  He will display his unique talents beneath the oaks and will have prints
available for purchase.  Our dinosaur tracks tour was such a popular event last year,
we will again have these tours during the weekend.

Finally, we want to update you regarding our plans to open a Bed & Breakfast.  The
old farm house has been undergoing some remodeling during the past 3 years.
However, our plans for opening this old home has been delayed.  We planned to
construct another residence so our guests could enjoy their privacy during their stay
here.  We apologize for this delay and will keep you posted.
